Tourists in Singapore can now check in faster at some hotels using facial recognition technology under a pilot programme to cut waiting times for visitors and reduce overloading for hotel staff.
The programme was launched on November 7, allowing visitors to use a phone app fitted with facial recognition technology or machines to scan their passports.
The data from the scan is sent to immigration authorities to check after which the visitor is issued a room key.
The technology, which has been trialed at three hotels, is similar to that used in some airports, including Changi International Airport. It could reduce check-in time by up to 70 percent.
